Destination star hotel

This afternoon my best friends decided I should get out of my common pit. They practically drag me from my little human crowded office and take me for the long drive to this unknown place. The destination star hotel is smack on the tarmac accessible to all users of the Chuka - Meru highway at a market called Kiriani very near the foot of Mount Kenya

This name sounds a bit weird for a hotel name in my opinion,I think they should have dropped the star or have it as "The destination". The uniformed guard at the gate is polite and peeps in briefly as he greets us. We park adjacent to the entrance to this lovely green garden which looks like it could  host beautiful Cinderella parties with good arrangements.

 A waiter receives us, shows us where to sit, on the first floor restaurant and takes our orders. From our position, it is clear that extreme marketing is needed to build up patronage. some of these seats have not been used in a long time. Out of curiosity, we ask to check out their rooms, the design is good, the size is good, the setting is fine and the provisions are good but similarly relatively unused. This joint has a lot of work to do, they need patrons

The food is well done, well served and the temperature of the drinks is as ordered. The meat has the right aroma, the right texture and all the juices are present. Service timelines adhered to and the waiter keeps a regular check on our table regardless of the fact that we were the only patrons in the restaurant at the hour. Just a few improvements to add finesse and we will have elegance on the foothills.

The intended hotel concept as i understand it is very unique, I can visualize the gardens, the flowers, the trees and buildings blending in together naturally. At the lower edge of the compound, the view of the valley into the Maara river is breathtaking, fresh air massages the face as we sit under some indigenous trees.Even from the casual eye this place shows a lot of potential, too bad it is incomplete. The incomplete part of the hotel is very visible from the tarmac and paints a picture of a run down establishment.

We are in luck today, the director is present, a nice man who gives us a history of the place and his vision. We shared our views on the place and we hope he will find a way of completing soon. He even gave us a generous discount, call it consultation fee for my Hospitality experience. The Destination can become a real gem, a base for climbing Mount Kenya.
